About Martin

Dr Martin Oduor-Otieno has spent more than four decades leading institutions and close to three decades around boardroom tables across Africa.

He joined KCB Group as Deputy CEO in 2005 and became CEO eight months later, leading the bank through a period of significant transformation and regional expansion. His career has also taken him through public service, global corporations and some of Africa’s most influential boardrooms.

Today, Martin chairs East African Breweries Plc and Sanlam Allianz Holdings (Kenya) Plc. He is Chancellor of KCA University and Founder and CEO of The Leadership Group, where he works with boards and executives on governance, leadership, strategy and culture.

Across all these roles, one belief has remained constant: institutions become stronger when the people leading them combine courage and competence with humanity.

What I Stand For

I believe Africa’s future depends not on perfect leaders, but on humanized leadership: leaders who can hold power and empathy in the same hand, govern with courage, build systems that outlast them, and leave institutions stronger than they found them.

That belief guides everything I do, from leadership and coaching to governance, board service and writing.
